How can we be saved? Each person is cast adrift in the middle of the ocean with no aid to save themselves. Despite their best endeavours they will eventually drown. The only salvation is in the ark of the church. But which church? Is it the church given by Christ or the churches made after the image of men. I for one, find no comfort the idea of being in a church that is younger than myself. One Christ, yet 350 voices in the world Council of churches saying: “I am he.” No wonder we all run the risk of drowning in sin.

There is an old Greek saying: ” I taught you to swim and now you are seeking to drown me”. As a community we recognise the rights of those who do not share conventional views. Parliament gave voice as to how it saw those rights being advanced. Unfortunately, rather than accepting equality those who perceive themselves in the minority now perceive themselves as being “more equal” than others. Now the rights of the majority are beginning to be eroded and we are simply remaining mute under threats of bullying. And who says George Orwell was wrong?

If you do not stand for anything you stand for nothing. If you are not true to yourself you cannot be true to others and if you do not respect yourself you cannot respect others. You see, love calls to commitment so without commitment love that last. You cannot be all things to all people no matter how hard you try. The same holds true for human relationships as well as our relationship with Christ. So to love Christ requires commitment, respect and belief.

Just as fire gives off heat and light so the Spirit gives off fervour and life. As the sun can only be seen through the radiance of its light so too Christ, who can only be embraced through the enlightenment of the Holy Spirit.
